The Light of Christ!
Wow guys this truly has been a ride of a lifetime! I have never been more grateful for making a decision in my entire life! The mission life is just a perfect life. I mean sure the trials are still there, but the blessings are just overwhelming.
Weekly Update:
So this week was a fun one! I did not write an email last week so I am just kinda going to combine them haha. But two weeks ago for my funny story I talked about one of our investigators named Jose Luis give a testimony of his love for the Gospel. Well last week we got to baptize him! It was super awesome seeing the joy on his face and just the light that the gospel can bring! A lot of people came to his baptism, so he really felt the love of his ward.
Last week was also the first time somebody tried to throw a punch at me. Luckily he was drunk and was moving at .5 speed. I dodged it quite easily and moved on with my day. Just something we laughed about honestly haha.
This week once again we went crazy with divisions! 4 divisions which is crazy because Elder Bretey was only planning on doing 2 this week. It was really exhausting going from one division to another and then to another and then to another, but it was an experience of a lifetime!
Could possibly be my last week with Elder Bretey :(( So we are living it up! Also praying so hard to stay together!
Funny Story/Sad story:
So I thought being in Mexico during the FIFA WorldCup would be really fun, but I could not have been more wrong! After having a week where 116 people attended church, we only had 45ish people attended church this week. That is how much the people love the FIFA World Cup here. It is their life! Hope someday we could get this dedication to Jesus Christ. On a happy note though, we did have all six of our new investigators from this week come to church!! So take that FIFA World Cup! Investigators for the win!
Spiritual thought:
I loved studying the Light of Christ these past two weeks! For those who do not know what the Light of Christ is basically what we are given when we are born. It is a part of Christ that is in us. Part of his light that helps us know good from evil. Lot more to it but that definition should suffice. In Doctrine and Covenants it says that the Light of Christ has the ability to fill the empty space in our lives(D&C 88:7). But I do not think it is our light of Christ that fills the empty spaces in ourselves, it is the light of Christ in others that help fill our empty spaces. I love D&C 88:50 "Then shall ye know that ye have seen me, that I am, and that I am the true light that is in you, and that you are in me; otherwise ye could not abound." This just is so cool to me. He is in all of us and we are all in him. Now picture a puzzle of Jesus Christ. We all have one piece of that puzzle in us because a part of us is in him. So when we seek out and find the light of Christ in others we are able to add another piece of Jesus Christ into our personal puzzle of "Who is Jesus Christ to you?". The more we seek out the light in others the more we comprehend who he is to us. He becomes truly our friend who we can see every day. Some people are incredibly easy to see the light of Christ in, and other people are incredibly difficult to see the light in. But in these moments remember D&C 50:49 which says "The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not[...]". The people who are hard to see the light of Christ are not people who do not have it. They are merely people who can not comprehend it. They need guidance and they need an example of what it feels and looks like. We can be that example! That is why it is so important to listen to Matthew 5:15-16
"15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
We are responsible to give this light to all who are in the house of the kingdom of God! What an amazing blessing to be given this assignment! As we do this we will start to see more and more light which will help us put together our puzzle piece of Christ. So, do you want to know Jesus Christ better? Let your light shine -> so others can find their light of Christ - > so you can find Christ in everyone - > so that we can all glorify God. As we do this GOD WILL BLESS US! HE WILL PREPARE PEOPLE TO RECEIVE PUZZLE PIECES OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS GOSPEL! This has become one of my new goals as a missionary. A successful contact is when I give that person my piece of Jesus Christ. They may not progress immediately, but if every missionary from that day on started sharing their piece with that person every contact I think one day they will have a big enough puzzle to see the idea of who he can be to them. At this point the joy of Christ will overflow them and bring them unto Heavenly Father and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So invite you to let your light shine this week and to seek the light of Christ in others!
