Temple Trip and Jorge!
Hey guys! These past two weeks have been a blast!
Highlights:
-We met an investigator named Jorge. He is the most amazing person and has had such a desire to learn and share the gospel. We have started to teach his family and two other families that are super close to him as well. We have basically lived in Jorge's house the past week. We do Basketball in the morning with them, English Classes, and Lessons with them about everyday. Typically it also ends up that they surprise us with a breakfast and a dinner. They are the Best!
-Sushi Night! Our stake president loves us and decided to take us to Sushi. He definitely spent way more money than we deserved, but it was delicious!!!
-We WENT TO THE TEMPLE! I love the temple and I love the spirit in the temple!
Spiritual:
I have pondered a lot about the journey to the promise land and in particular a verse
"(There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadesh-barnea)”-Deuteronomy 1:2
There is a article that talks about the significance of this verse that I would like to share a part of.
"Because it is set within parentheses and because it seems to be relaying minutia, this verse is easily passed over. But, at closer examination, it can be one of the most thought-provoking verses in the Old Testament. Identifying two of the sites in the verse makes this clearer. Horeb is another name for Mount Sinai, and Kadesh-barnea is the place where Moses and the children of Israel camped as they sent men into the promised land as spies. Kadesh-barnea was on the border of the promised land, and it was intended that the children of Israel would go from there and inherit the land. In other words, it took the children of Israel 40 years to travel the distance they could have traveled in 11 days."
What I enjoy about this verse and the article that I wrote about above, is that it proposes an interesting question in my life.
What journeys in my life are taking 41 years, when they only need 11 days?
I have started to propose this question to my investigators. You may wonder what cause the Journey to take so long? And the question through examination of scriptures in Exodus and Deuteronomy can be answered quite quickly. They lacked faith in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, Even when they had seen his hand thousands of time in their journey!
I know that through Faith in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, we can make our 41 year journeys 11 days. God is here to help us return to him faster. He is our promised land.
